"Never Say Farewell" I've posted this song on my home page in the memory of Mike Rhinesmith who passed away on September 1st after a courageous battle with cancer. Mike was truly a legend of the Class of 1979 - Wayne Hills High School, Wayne, NJ. He was a phenomenal athlete and an even better person. He was always smiling and laughing and you just couldn't help but feel better when you were around him. He was an original. One of a kind. When we were in 8th grade English class together at Schulyer Colfax Junior High (not "Middle School" yet) he was fond of saying the word RENOB. Finally the teacher (a woman - Mrs Hannon I think it was) asked him what it meant. He told her to write it on the black board - which she did. He then said "read it backwards". Which she also did... and Ha ha - I never saw a teacher turn so red!! It's a silly memory but it's the one I think of most often when it comes to Mike. I told the story to my family last night and they loved it. What better enduring memory can you have of someone than one that causes you to break into a smile whenever you think of them... Rest in Peace old friend. Tom |
